About The Artwork

oil on canvas with small hand made paper embellishment poem in marker on canvas back I forgot. I forgot what it felt like to cry like that. Like the world was ending. Like I haven't in so long I can't remember. I can remember a few times, just, not exactly how long ago was the last time. I forgot what it was like to cry with complete abandon. Heaving, convulsive, bawling. Face contorting, lip quivering, wretching. Uncontrollable, snot bubble, drooling breathless crying. Anguished calls of sorrow. Not since I was two and had an ear infection that made it feel like my head was going to explode. Not since I was 6 and broke my ankle the first time, and tried to stand on it after. Not since I was ten and fell in battery acid suffering 3rd degree burns. Not since the 3 months in the hospital recovering and enduring skin grafts and blood infections spiked fevers and ice baths to try to save me, that shocked me even more. Not since Grandma died. Not since, not since never. Never have I cried that hard. No loss, no pain, no injury. Broken bones and stab wounds and burns and tears and internal injuries, cracked sternum or kidney stones. Nothing ever hurt, like that one moment in time. For 5 minutes on June 17, 2014 at 9:37pm . The world split open, sucked me in and crushed me. But I crawled back to the surface, wiped my face, and smiled.

Anthony F Pepe is a poet, painter, sculptor and photographer working in South Florida. My visual work should be poems for the eyes. To be, perused, explored and lost in. I am a poet, a painter, a sculptor and photographer. I paint for the same reason I write. "When I write, I am not trying to tell someone what to think or feel. Rather, I only insist that they think and feel... something. My paintings should be visual poems that draw you in, on a journey of thought and emotion." "All my art is an outpouring of passion. The act, the process for me is a labor of love. I write, paint and sculpt the same way that I cook a meal for a dear loved one. The same way Grandma taught me to. I pour all my emotion, attention and love into it in an attempt to share a little bit of how I feel with the recipient."
