Liberta sul Ponte Painting

A unfilled day in Venice. The bridge which is featured in the painting was called the the Bridge of Sighs in the old days as the prisoners who would be forced to walk across it from the courts on the left to the dungeons on the right indeed would never to see daylight again. Most perished in these dark dungeons. When I approached it via water seemed to glitter in the sunlight and was beautiful historic site with light and shadows falling here and there on the group of buildings. Also the colourful houses farther back from the bridge were reflected so beautifully in the canal waters. Now tourists happily travel from the courts across the bridge to examine the dungeons and thus I changed the name of the painting to Liberta sul Ponte, as it was a thing of joy to behold ! The colour contrasts are dramatic from light to dark according to light and shadow on the architecture.The blue - greens of the canal has reflections of gold soft reds, and soft reflections from the ivory blush of the court and dungeon exteriors.
