This is part 4 of a 4 part series that covers a journey. Descansos, all the things I said and did not say. To quote Clarissa Pinkola Estés “‘Women have died a thousand deaths before they are twenty years old. They have gone in this direction or that, and have been cut off. They have hopes and dreams that have been cut off also. Anyone who says otherwise is still asleep. All the grist for the mill of descansos […] A body who has lived a long time collects debris. It cannot be avoided. But if a woman will return to the instinctual nature instead of sinking into bitterness, she will be revived, reborn. To make descansos means taking a look at your life and marking where the small deaths, las muertes chicitas, and the big deaths, las muertes grandotas, have taken place.”

www.melorawalters.com short film of me within my art : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsX0qNgT4Ug “When I paint it is not just creating a painting, it is the act of painting. It is transmitting a feeling into a canvas, the act of applying the paint, the movement, almost a ritual”. Walters is an American painter whose work explores the meaning of being alive. She is deeply interested in psychology and human experience, and explores these topics through varied media, including oil on canvas, enamel, analogue photography, sculpture and pencil. Her inspiration comes from philosophers and psychologists such as Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, and Marie Louise von Franz among other intellectuals. Walters addresses emotional themes with pared-down directness and intensity, often portraying ferocious animal archetypes and exploring mythological narratives. Her work been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, and Berlin. “My original love and inspiration is the terrifying risk of being vulnerable. This is what guides me, what holds me, is mythology, Ancient history. Art. Nature, for if it is touched it is no longer wild. Mirrored by the organized chaos of the universe, the abyss, the dark void. Being and Nothingness. My dreams. My love.”
