This starting point for this piece was the fish and and newspaper cuttings which I had saved from a previous project. I have no idea what the newspaper cuttings say though, so I hope they’re not offensive. I really love the bowl shapes next to the fish in this painting. All the elements of the painting remind me of Asian food, which I love. I’ve been vegetarian since 1987. I would order something like tofu chow mein with vegetables, rather than anything with meat or fish in. Mixed media painting of acrylic paint, pearlescent acrylic ink, acrylic markers, collage, pastel and pencil, on 250 gsm acid free mixed media paper. This painting is slightly brighter in real life. The reds, oranges, some pinks, and some yellow is painted with neon paint which does not photograph well. Signed and dated on the back. PLEASE NOTE: This painting has a paper tape border round the edge from the paper being stretched. The actual size of this painting is approximately 1.5cm smaller on all sides. I have left the border on so the painting can be window mounted without losing any of the painting. If you want this image to be float mounted, it should be cropped to removed the paper tape border. The border is not intended to be viewed as part of the painting. The cropped or window mounted size of the actual image without the tape border would be approximately 39.2cm x 55cm // 15.5” x 21.75”

Although the name I am now using is Natalie Parsons, my previous name was Natalie Ballard. Some of my paintings are signed as Natalie Ballard. I will try and add both names to the back of all paintings! I have had a varied and exciting career over the last 25 years. I have worked as a textile designer, an artist, a graphic & web designer and a flash animator. I have created many animations for television shows for the BBC, Channel 4, E4, and Channel 5, and I have met some inspirational people along the way. I always had a passion for art, drawing, textiles, and making and documenting things. I'm excited by life, people, especially things that make me laugh. Anything in my daily life can be a starting point for a painting, and I love the idea that a work takes on a life of it's own and leads me where it wants to go. I grew up in Hertfordshire. I moved to Sussex to go to college, and ended up staying here. I have lived in Brighton on the south coast of England for 22 years. I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoyed making it.
