About The Artwork

The last painting bears the visual punch(line) of the triptych. By making the dissolution of power present through a strong atmospheric absence, it belies and subverts the previous two paintings thus completing the conceptual exploration that was undertaken. The name- and faceless persons awaiting the arrival of somebody, most probably one of our kings, manifest more directly the ominous narrative that was previously only hinted at. Coming straight out of Adam Curtis' Hypernormalization, the men in the gray flannel suits symbolize an inverted order wherein power no longer exposes itself but hides in plain view as such becoming more dangerous. Be it Kafka or Foucault, the Western canon is full of the conceptual visualization of the new order that can no longer be grasped in the blink of an eye and works in much more insidious ways. Evading any claim of responsibility by its anonymity. The committee ushers in a new world in the mythology of this series. They make the visual language that was used in the other paintings obsolete while still bathing in its aura. Their modus operandi is that of waiting as they seem to be waiting for either someone or to execute an order. The spectator can only hope they're not waiting for him.

João Sineiro is a Portuguese artist currently living and working in Antwerp, Belgium. His work is sustained, to great extent, on technical skills. Every object that comes out of his studio is handmade, unique in its nature and irreproducible, requiring an investment of time and intellectual dedication that gifts them with essential intrinsic qualities of an art work. The technics employed range on the traditional style of painting, but always leaving enough room left for innovation and experimental approaches, resulting in works that always reveal his exquisite capabilities to manipulate paint into his will, whilst the conceptual part of the selected subjects is directly related to more contemporary aspects of life and the modern world we live in today.
