About The Artwork

Why burgundy, why not blue? My pictures almost always show a dichotomy. Their message depends very much on what the viewer wants to see in them. Behind the beauty and flirtation that we see at first glance in the movement, there is something that keeps us going. Why is the paint burgundy? Did I want to depict blood? The feet are already less flirty, we wonder if they are on the floor at all, or hanging in the air, depicting a moment of death.

An artist shares his thoughts with the world through his brush. During my studies I struggled, I thought I must have nothing in me, nothing to say. I now know I just didn't have the right medium to express myself. When I found embroidery I felt a freedom, for me thread is to me what a brush and pencil are to other artists. My paintings explore social issues. I deal with issues and emotions in my own life and in the lives of most of us. Central to my creative process is the expressiveness of these moments. I believe that it is possible to convey the weight of a moment regardless of the time of its creation. The contrast between the long hours spent embroidering and the lightness of the end result is the driving force of my art. Each of my creations is a small slice of myself, and because I am sensitive to the deepest- and most poignant moments, my paintings simultaneously process heavy themes while exuding an airy lightness. So there is one thing that is as important to my art as the thread itself: colour. No matter how difficult, sad or painful life may be, no one can take its beauty away from me.
