The cheerful young pizza maker who, against a seaside backdrop with Vesuvius in the background, presents his classic "Pizza Margherita", is accompanied in the foreground by two rather atypical figurines, namely "Two Fauns", taken from a painting by Rubens in Munich's Alte Pinakothek and painted together with a classical mask on the lower right in a rather comic-like style. Who doesn't share it, the Italy craving with arguably the greatest fast food invention dating back to the ancient Romans, the pizza? Supposedly, it's best on the shores of the Gulf of Naples. In mythical times, the satyrs, those wild guys, formerly nature deities, used to scare the shepherds tired around the hot noon time by their sudden apotropaic appearance. Mostly, however, they calmed down again and blew their "pan flute". Thus my picture shows that the opposition of nature and culture, which is anchored in the occidental tradition, can be dissolved by the modern mass tourism and the corresponding globalized "myths of everyday life" at least imaginary in most beautiful harmony. The same could also apply to the pacification of the today anyway no longer opportune opposition of high and low culture - beyond all cultural pessimism. As is well known, Vesuvius is also "nature", which has been "threatening" again for centuries - with violent, but no longer as catastrophic eruptions as back then in 79 A.D. But is nature "threatening"?
