About The Artwork

The painting "Kalahari" depicts a scene of Khoisan hunters in the midst of a dark and foreboding desert landscape. The hunters are shown in silhouette, armed with their traditional weapons of bow and arrow, as they stalk their prey - a group of graceful springbok. The desert terrain is barren and unforgiving, yet the hunters move with an easy grace that speaks to their intimate knowledge of the land. Above them, dark storm clouds gather, suggesting that danger may be looming, but the hunters remain focused and undeterred in their pursuit. The painting captures the primal essence of the Khoisan people's relationship with their environment, showcasing their mastery of the natural world and their dependence on it for survival. The use of silhouettes heightens the drama and mystery of the scene, allowing the viewer to imagine the intricate details of the hunters' clothing, the contours of the landscape, and the delicate features of the springbok. Overall, "Kalahari" is a powerful and evocative work of art that celebrates the Khoisan people's connection to their ancestral land and their skillful hunting traditions.

Here's a 2021 Artist Interview Farook had at the Athenaeum which aired on DSTV Channel 260: https://youtu.be/o5B_-HaJhNE From the Artist: "I come from a very diverse family background and have family in nearly every part of the world. I was born and raised in the beautiful Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, Eastern Cape, South Africa. I’ve traveled around the country and made home of our other noted and beautifully vibrant cities such as Johannesburg and Durban but I’m now back in my hometown. I’m also a collector of rarities and other valuables, an artist by nature and my work is influenced by world history, my own diverse family background which I can trace “spanning continents”, I’m also influenced by my physical surroundings and global events affecting us all (some of my works are a bit controversial and it adds some fun and spice for collectors who buy my works with the aim of making a buck or two or simply because they love and appreciate my creative expression), it’s all very unique, always tells a story and looks like the kind of artwork you’d usually find in an old money home. I’ve taken part in National and International Art competitions such as the Mzansi Art Gallery Competition & Exhibition 2021, The 2021 New Now Emerging Artist Competition hosted by Galerie NOKO, sponsored by VANSA [Visual Artist Network of South Africa], L’atelier [Continental, Sponsored by ABSA Bank] and Climanosco (Switzerland) for Art And Science on the topic of Global Warming and Rising Water Levels & State of The Art Gallery Competition on the same theme of Global Warming. I have a lot more to say and add but will be updating my journey along the way.
