In August 2017, young singer Zelim Bakaev disappeared in Chechnya. There are clear indications that he is one of the victims of the atrocious anti-gay purge in Chechnya, where authorities have been kidnapping, torturing, and murdering men they believe to be gay or bisexual.

I am a French plastic artist. I have been painting and sculpting since my early childhood. I studied liberal arts at Valenciennes. I started to take up the theme of tenderness between males when I was a teenager. I was in need of positive representations of homosexuality. It was difficult to obtain such images of homosexuality during that period, especially from a middle class family in the North of France. Homosexuality was still very much taboo. It is less so today. However, I love evoking on the only thing that truly matters: the love, the serenity, the togetherness, the confidence, the alterity, the pleasure of being together, and the full-blown pleasure of love.
