ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Inspiration for "The Dream of the Visitors with Brook Trout" came from the landscape in the mountains in Northern Pennsylvania and my dreams of visitors to our planet. The full moons, sun and animals are part of my surreal world. It's about connecting to other galaxies and our own beautiful planet. ...

My interest in spirituality and nature are key elements in creating each painting. I am a conduit for each vision which comes through me and is painted onto the canvas. Creating an imaginary world, one filled with color, natural elements and a concern for the heath of our beautiful planet is at the core of my work. Color has always played an important role in my art and when I’m in the flow of painting, I enter a place of calmness where there is no time. I find it can be very meditative experience. I incorporate natural elements that I love such as birds, orchids, foxes, turtles and trout in my landscapes and sometimes like to use simplified barns to create a stage setting. I think of these places almost like a movie set, a setting where something is about to happen. This is the great mystery. What will unfold? There’s a huge universe out there that grabs ahold of my imagination. We’re not alone after all. I am influenced by visual artists like film maker M. Night Shaymalan and painters Will Barnet, Louis Sloan and Paul Gauguin. I'm a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where I received The William Emlen Cresson Traveling Scholarship Award for painting. I've exhibited my spiritually inspired watercolors and oil paintings at The Pennsylvania State Museum & The American Embassy in Brussels, Belgium and The Delaware Art Museum and received The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant for painting. I've attended residencies at the Margo-Kelb Dune Shack in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and La Villa Arrigo in Florence, Italy. I paint on location and at my studio in Oxford and English Center, PA
