Inspired by beautiful fall color and its mood that is created by bright chartreuse leaves and the shadows against cold air. My approach to the subject in nature is more in the manner of portrait that is personified by forms, lines and colors.

Jae Schalekamp was born and raised in South Korea. She is currently residing in Albany, NY. When she came back to painting as a full-time artist, after 15 years of designing textiles, she turned to nature for inspiration. The first series “Poised in Nature” conveys nature’s trace of time and adaptation to its environment in a calm and intimate setting. Jae has experimented with different subject matters and styles. She is interested in identifying unchanging truths and patterns of life in phenomenal cycle of nature. She uses forms and compositions to express state of mind with an element of eastern philosophy.
