"It is always exciting to discover the work of an artist who has the ability to create paintings that get the old juices flowing. For me, Brian Homewood's work, especially his portraits, fit the bill. There are flashes of genius on those canvases and in my opinion, given the proper opportunity, he will go on to produce extraordinary works. I'm eager to see what he creates next." William Neal McPheaters Artist/ illustrator /Author Michael Acerra --Artist/Designer/Educator/Public Speaker Brian Homewood is one of the best painters I know. He demonstrates in his work a deep sympathy for his subjects, a deft facility with the practices and materials of painting, and a genuine poetic sensibility in all of his work. He possesses a kind of painterly charism rarely found in our trade which enables him to communicate tenderness without sentimentality. His portraits are truthful, loving, and unflattering tributes to his sitters, and likewise, his landscapes capture the ineffable quality of longing of place and time that pulls on our heart. His mastery of the nuance of color harmony and figuration can almost mislead us into thinking that we are looking at a terrific realist painting. In fact, Homewood's uses these elements to draw us deeper into the framework of his plan. When an artist like Brian Homewood can make plastic the emotional connection we have to place or person we should appreciate that he has reached the deep end of his craft and earned the title of artist As a creative writer of many years, I rarely find myself at a loss for words. This is one of those times. What I can say is that Brian Homewood has accomplished the near impossible. In some mysterious way he captures the life of a scene, a face, a gesture, even an attitude, and freezes it in place with whatever medium he chooses to employ. I am filled with the feeling that if I could stand near enough, I would hear his paintings breathing, hear the drops of rain rebound from the pavement, feel the fog off the Thames as it gathers in my eyebrows. That he is able to do this is amazing. That he is able to do it so well is astounding. In short, I love his work. J. Richard Jacobs BRIAN HOMEWOOD has mastered the technique of drawing/painting to such a high standard that it enables him to let his imagination take him where it will.
