Janay Everett (born in Philadelphia, United States) is an artist who mainly works with painting. Everett tries to focus on being present in the act of painting. The character, shape or content of the presented artwork is secondary. The essential things are the moment and the intention to create. With references to Neo-classicism and impressionism, her paintings are an investigation into representations of situations as well as depictions and ideas that can only be realized in painting. Her works are presented with the aim not to provide an idealistic view but to identify where light and the environment are important. The energy of a place and its emotional influence is always a key component. She creates work through a reflective process which can be considered as a personal ritual. Her work urges us to renegotiate painting as being part of our contemporary society. Janay Everett currently lives and works in Santa Monica.
