The idea behind my satirical character Suzy Spreadwell, from my comic of the same name, or one of the ideas, is to look at fundamentalist, deep-red state religion as we would a fetish. I find the model fits quite well. The premise of the series is that Suzy, just having reached adulthood, is having a great deal of trouble keeping to her Purity Pledge, and florid and often blasphemous fantasies start exploding through her head. This series of paintings arising from that is called "The Sleepy Sins of Suzy Spreadwell." This was the first of the series, and the only digital one(the others being watercolor, ink, and gouache on illustration board), which is why this is print-only. An introductory piece establishing the basic motif. And as we were all taught in Sunday School, Jesus is always watching. Always. The work is available in a number of sizes, but the original file was done at 20" x 30".
