Mark Millsted The abstracts work belong to and expressionist tradition and the exploration of material through process. Development in my work includes representational elements in a New Symbolist painting following in tradition of artists such as Redon and late nineteen century painters that explored mystical dreams and subconscious ideas. I draw upon those issues pertinent to my own reflective experiences. Having been fairly rigorous enquiry into objective observation my motivation now is to experiment with this knowledge but to be no less considered in my approach of creativity through contradiction and celebrating imperfections. Born in Faversham in Kent, Millsted now work in Folkestone and have had my studio there since 2014. His life comprises constant making, through self belief and perseverance. He has studied at Thanet, Canterbury, Norwich, Cardiff during his formative years I was under the tutelage of the illustrator’s and artists Mike Trim, John Bruce and Rob Mason. I studied architecture in Dundee. Millsted also has been indebted to artists with special mention to Christine Merton, John Davies and Dawson Murray.
