Hilary is an architect who has been drawing and painting for over two decades. Born in London and raised in Kansas, she has lived and worked in London, Chicago, Houston, Paris, Brooklyn and NYC before ultimately settling in Jersey City where she now lives with her young family. She has spent over a decade in architectural practice and related fields prior to showing a select body of her work. Hilary's artistic work focuses on figurative, portraiture, and landscape drawing and painting. Her particular interest is in the interpretation and depiction of her subjects' moods, rendering each with a unique atmosphere. She primarily renders images with high contrast mediums - completing quick impressions by sketching with dry media, ink, and watercolor. She is inspired by her travels, education in the US and Europe, and her background in art history. Her experience as an architect also often informs her work. Her favorite architects are early modernists and late 20th Century minimalists. She also draws inspiration from a wide range of artists from art history including European and American Modernists, German Secessionists, American Expressionists, 18th Century Dutch masters and Renaissance painters.
