Nicolas Gasiorowski

French painter, expressionist
Nicolas Gasiorowski paints, guided by his instinct. His studio becomes a theatre of improvisation in which verbal jousts are replaced by coloured chalk; animated by hand movements where mud stains and muffled flat tints dance. The importance is in the motif, the material, the balance, the point of force and the light. A tough fight with the canvas where the subject of the painting appears once all the elements are gathered. An unexpected world, simply suggested, dances before our eyes: a water’s edge, a pussy, an abandoned factory, a ruined monument, an absent being, an oriental character…

Born in Paris in 1958, Nicolas Gasioroswki became aware of painting very early on. Art books, paintings and engravings are present in the houses he visits. Admitted to the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1979 in Caron’s studio, he left the school a year later: he preferred the solitary apprenticeship to the strict framework of education, to which he turned definitively. A self-taught and spontaneous painter, Nicolas Gasiorowski has been following his artistic path for 45 years now.
