This work shows a large, hollow, resin heart, painted in a deep velvet red. The heart is deeply cut by a cold steel blade, deeply embedded. The whole piece is mounted on a square frame for ease of hanging and to give a backdrop. This work evokes feelings of love and of heartbreak.

Since winning the London, Cork Street Open in 2011, Simon Shepherd's career has gone from strength to strength, with both group and solo shows in the UK, USA and Canada. Shepherd is equally comfortable working in a range of materials including clay, steel and wood to produce a body of work which is truly unique. His work explores the relationship between the familiar and the unfamiliar, often focusing on objects of popular culture and the 'everyday'. Conceptually, themes range from satire to abstract explorations of space and form. Physically however, Shepherd attempts to deconstruct recognisable exteriors and re-imagines the rebuild with contrasting structural elements.
