#2 of 5 Wong’s heroine series shows moments in history – young, charming heroines with steely eyes and brave faces. These images of past revolutionary heroes are made relevant to today’s audience by combining them with commonly recognized heroes from modern popular culture. Perhaps this is a comment, even criticism, on the separation that young generations today feel from their history and the revolutionaries who worked so hard to shape it. These works pose a question, what really makes a hero?

【Oil painter & Graffiti artist】 ___ ___ Born in 1982, Dake Wong is an oil painter and graffiti artist who has been creating art since he was a child. Since 2000 he has focused on figurative painting and has a strong interest in people and the individual. In 2010 he began working with stencil graffiti, which he says, has a simplicity that can’t be achieved in oil painting. “Stencil graffiti is an other way of expression, which juxtaposes against the detail and precision of oil painting. By removing excessive decoration, the art work is streamlined and bold, its message clear,” he explains. "I don’t pursue a breakthrough, innovation, profound, significance life. I just want to enjoy in painting with this unexpected life."
