On our way along the path, near a bend, we stop and wait. The nature around us is lush: the blinding sunlight renders pastel colours and draws purple shadows on the ground. We are waiting. Perhaps we are waiting for someone, perhaps we are waiting for something to bring joy into our lives. The enchanted atmosphere makes our waiting sweet. This painting belongs to the series on paths, the main theme of my pictorial poetics. The path is perceived as a life journey and a mirror of oneself, with stories left behind and goals to be reached in the distance. This painting was done in the studio in December 2022. It is a reworking of several en plein air studies. The work is painted in oil on Masonite, a panel of compressed wood fibre. Masonite is a material that was widely used by artists in the first half of the 20th century as a support for their paintings because it is extremely strong and crushproof. I love painting on this material because its very smooth surface allows me to achieve effects that cannot be achieved on other materials. I also have the guarantee of high durability. The signature is in the lower left corner. The painting is protected by a layer of satin acrylic varnish. The work comes with a thin wooden frame to protect the edges. It is ready to hang. The overall dimensions of the framed painting are: centimetres: 52.1 W x 42.2 H x 2.5 D inches: 20.6" W x 16.6" H x 1" D The work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist. "Waiting: the purple shadows" is a literal translation of the original Italian title "Attesa: le ombre viola".

I am an Italian professional artist, born in 1969. I love nature, sunlight, the shadows of trees. I used nature to learn to paint, I discovered nature by painting. My pictorial research on nature began thirty years ago, in the woods of the Tuscan hills. Since then I have created countless studies en plein air, which I rework and synthesize in my studio. I am searching for a quick painting style, in one go and without hesitation, which can convey all the sensations that nature offers me. My goal is to paint pictures that, once hung, are able to irradiate the entire room with light, like a window wide open to nature. And I would like them to return the heat of summer, the frost of winter, the warm wind of spring. I love walking a path and reproducing it in my paintings. The path transforms into an invitation for the viewer to enter the painting. I often think of the path as a life journey, with goals in the distance and experiences left behind. I am in love with grass, ditches and marshes. I am obsessed with narrow "passages" between the bushes of a forest or the reeds of a swamp. I pass through them safely and happily, always imagining I am entering another dimension. My paintings are not simply landscapes. They are compositions that tell stories, moods or situations transfigured in nature. They are prayers, hymns to joy, praises to life. My artworks are notes of the magic that I experience every time I go out to paint, tools to remember it, pretexts to experience it again. As a separate discipline, I am also interested in portraiture, which I have always practised, also on commission. I live and work in my home-studio in Lucca, Tuscany (Italy).
