[Dance of the sea and nature] I expressed the flow of the sea and nature in an abstract way with '5 colors of Korea'. My paintings are based on five colors of Korea called 'O-bang-saek(오방색, 五方色)'. They are traditional Korean colors. 'Obangsaek' is five elements set of colors based on the theory of 'Eum-yang-o-haeng(음양오행, 陰陽五行, Yin Yang Wu Xing)', which believe this universe consists of Eum(음, 陰, Yin), Yang(양, 陽, Yang), and Five elements called Ohaeng(오행, 五行, Wu Xing). They are blue, red, yellow, white and black colors. Each stands for the East, the South, the middle, the West and the North. So, we call them ‘Obang’. It means five directions. In addition, each of these colors symbolizes wood, fire, soil, iron, and water. We call them 'Ohaeng'. It means five elements. Each element has natural energy to match them. So these colors are closely related to life. Korean ancestors believed that they would defeat bad energy and bring good luck. And we also believe that now.
