Flower Print

This painting is made over a collage of newspaper and other paper, on canvas. I paint in various layers and mainly with oil. I also use spray paint, acrylics and sometimes markers. Then i put the canvas on wood and apply layers of liquid glass, painting in between the layers. The liquid glass makes the colours more lively and sparkling, and give a profundity to the image. It is as if the faces are under water. Depending on perspective and light, there are different reflections that play with the painted image, and magical light effects. My grandmother was from Java, Indonesia. The stories about her life and person are exotic and mystic and seem to be far away from my western daily reality. Yet my tissues, both the physical and the mental ones, are partly springing from this colourful alien well. And though daily life presents itself in an entirely different way as it used to do 80 years ago in Indonesia, i feel the influences. In this painting there is the sigh of ancient times in a tropical mysterious world, captured in a 21st century setting
