ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is one in my series that originally used the medium of oil to paint paper images representing Chinese society. I have expanded this concept now to also examine the environment and living things which live in a fragile ecosystem. In this painting the paper shows the fragility of living creatures. As we continue our economic development, life hangs in the balance. If we don't make changes, this too will be gone.

Huang Xi (Simao) Growing up in the porcelain capital of China, Jingdezhen, it was inevitable that I would be exposed to art at a very young age. I was fascinated by the shapes, designs and beauty that was painted onto ceramic works by family members. From this influence, and subsequent artistic progress, a university education led to a career specialising in contemporary art. I am currently working in Beijing and have representation with galleries both in China and abroad.
