The pierced form invites the viewer in for negative exploration. The concave systems add another dimension to the solid form by bringing attention to the possibilities within the outer surface. The form was carved to its solid shape first before proceeding to excavate the selected areas. By connecting front to back through the openings, the relationship between these two faces is deepened. The openings on the back are left separated as oppose to the front side which exhibits a shared bowl. The concentric rings center onto the back spine adding another eliptical form to the piece. The front growth ring pattern is horizontal and straight contributing to the sculpture's sense of calm. The concavities at either end provide a sense of movement as if they are starting to open up as well.

There are 2 hairline checks on one side of the piece which are only noticeable upon close inspection. They may "breathe" slightly with changes in humidity but will not pose any hindrance on the integrity of the piece.
