ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My painting of ‘Yawa’ uses the reverse side of glass as the canvas, adding texture and depth to the image. Multiple layers of acrylic paint, along with scraping techniques, reveal hidden shapes and textures, inviting viewers to explore the intricate details. Through the clear glass we see Ghanaian cloth.

As an artist, I firmly believe that creativity knows no boundaries, and my journey of self-discovery has ultimately led me back to my true passion for painting. I initially studied Fine Art for two years before honing my skills in print retouching and illustration in a London studio, and eventually transitioning into design and art direction. With a solid background in commercial art, I have spent over 20 years building brands for numerous clients. However, like many others, I lost my job due to the impact of Covid. During the subsequent lockdown, I rediscovered the therapeutic power of painting, which not only helped me maintain my mental health but also provided financial support while I searched for my next opportunity. My artistic style has been in a constant state of evolution, and I am currently deeply immersed in exploring the unique medium of painting directly on the reverse side of glass panels, rather than traditional canvas. This approach adds an additional layer of depth and dimensionality to my artwork, creating a captivating sense of reflection and intrigue that draws viewers in. Throughout my artistic journey, I have had the privilege of participating in prestigious exhibitions and events. My video installation, ‘Look inside my mind,’ was exhibited at ‘Sculptures by the Sea’ in 2018, and my installation, ‘Look inside my heart,’ was selected for the Vivid festival in 2020, although unfortunately, the festival was cancelled due to the pandemic. Over the course of my career, I have been honoured with awards for my creative campaigns, and have been invited to serve on various judging panels, including the Health and Wellness jury for Lions Health in Cannes (2016), the Healthcare Spikes Awards in Singapore (2014), and the Executive Jury of the Global Awards in New York in 2013. Additionally, I have made multiple appearances on ABC television’s ‘The Gruen Transfer.’
