ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I like that feeling of drawing a pen across paper and if it is only to sketch circles or lines. And I appreciate that it is so uncomplicated. All I need is a place to sit, pen, paper and a sharpener. I was addicted to it even as a child. At university I became interested in photography. I carried my Nikon camera with me everywhere, and I developed the films and printed the pictures in my darkroom. These days there are so many great mobile phone pictures around and my digital camera feels heavy. So I‘ve somehow lost interest in taking pictures and a few years ago I took up drawing again. I‘m fascinated by faces, be it on a bus or on a painting, and how they are modelled by light. I want to know what is happening in a face when the expression is changed by even a slight nuance. When I have a good run, my faces almost draw themselves. The supply of faces in my head seems endless to me then.
