"Pineapple Upside Down Cake" circles around my own memories (my Mom's cookbooks on the shelf, the cake, the recipe) and how expectations don't always play out (The Bell Jar on the shelf with the cookbooks). Irony is my happy place. Denise Brook is a contemporary artist who lives and works in San Diego, California. She was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles in the 1970’s and got her BFA from CSU Fresno. Her work is based on images and ephemera from the past, mixed with hidden and ironic commentary on love, politics and the consumerism of the 21st Century. The original has been sold.
