ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This artwork is part of the "Decay Of Religion" Collection and is available in 3 sizes, Small, Medium and Museum. This incredible abandoned church was found in Italy. Exploring abandoned places is one of my favorite things to do and I try to portray what they look like inside. This photograph was taken in 2018 and reworked in 2024. Limited edition of 50. Signed and numbered with a certificate of authentication. Printed on high quality fine art paper Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta 325 g/m² by Atelier Claire Deprez, a professional printer specialised in fine-art printing who I have worked with for years.

My name is Valerie Leroy and I'm from Belgium. Since I was a kid I have always been creative, I went to music school at the age of 8, I started playing the guitar when I was 9, and I did ballet. At the age of 16 I decided to do Visual Arts, where my love for drawing and painting came out even more. Later on, when I was 19 I started my Graphic Design studies at the university. Photography has always been a part of my life. My dad had a dark room at our house and I learned how to develop photos myself. Amongst all the different creative outlets photography is my favorite, I am never without inspiration. My preference goes to derelict places, the thrill of gaining access, and seeing how beautiful they are inside. I try to capture the beauty so that other people can see it through my eyes. Each photograph takes a lot of time planning, traveling, finding a way inside... In 2018 I had a traumatic brain injury which made it hard to keep doing my passion with as much energy as I was used to. I can't go on adventures as I did before and working on my art has become a more scheduled passion, I can't put as much time and energy in it anymore due to my injury, which is very frustrating and hard to deal with. I recently decided to look back on the photos I took before the accident and I started reworking them. So I'm adding old/new work bit by bit.
