Painter, Photographer, Inker, Animator working from Bristol, UK. As an animator Dale has creatied visuals for some of the world's leading musicians/bands. In 2021 he seeded his still works here on Saatchi Art. Filmic and analogue by nature and process, the egoless synchrony of pigment and light interaction yields a unique aesthetic. Working with the molecular reaction of ink and surface, Dale explores a hidden aesthetic, observing the pure connection in everything and everyone... Follow his 2021 'journey begin' here on Saatchi for his stills. You can follow link to his other life as a pioneering visual artist. "except for blending with the void, there is no way to understand..." Dale's story.. On leaving Fine Art college and moving to Bristol in ‘the second summer of love’ 1989, Dale began creating, mixing, and projecting visuals for the UK’s exploding rave scene. There weren't any moving visuals in clubs and raves at this point. Video projectors were in their infancy, and unavailable for club and gig events. He had to improvise by running hand inked and scratched film loops, a technique known as ‘direct to film’ animation, through banks of affordable 16mm cine film projectors. The visuals were projected onto a succession of suspended net screens throughout the venue. As SubVision, he created and supplied visuals to the blossoming UK club scene. He was resident visual artist at Bristol’s super club of the time, Lakota. From his top floor Lakota base he worked at the major raves, gigs, clubs and gatherings of the time. Including Fantazia, Universe, Obsession, Helter Skelter, Dreamscape, Ministry of Sound, aswell as working with bands including The Orb, Prodigy, The Shaman, Tricky, Orbital, Primal Scream and Prince, plus many more.. "This is where my love of India Ink on film began! Working over a lightbox, using a powerful magnifying glass, i apply the finest quality India Ink direct to the film using a variety of custom tools and brushes" He has developed techniques to assist blending and dispersion of the inks to enable the creation of a single frame Artwork on 16mm or 35mm film stock. Frames can measure as small as 10.26mm x 7.49mm. This frame is sent to the film lab who custom digitally scan at ultra high resolution creating a digital file of the art.
