I experimented with making my abstract shapes spell out words. These pieces are collages using linen with no stretcher bars. I wanted a relaxed primitive feel to this unknown language. I used transparent gesso so the color of the linen would show through the painting.

Ann Lowe is a painter and graphic designer who went to art school at Goldsmiths College in London, England and lived for many years in New York City. She now lives in Silver City, New Mexico. She has exhibited at Conlon-Siegel Gallery in Santa Fe and won a New Forms Regional Initiative Grant for her road signs she installed on HWY 61 in the Mimbres valley near Silver City. Her work is experimental and inventive. She is currently working with the concept of abstract language.
