ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Why does Ford Prefect carry a towel in the iconic book: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? According to the book, it can give you control of your life if you know where your towel is at all times. We all know control is illusive, but we struggle to attain some in our lives nevertheless Why does Ford Prefect carry a towel in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? Adams says in the book: A towel is the most important item a Hitchhiker can carry. Ford emphasises the importance of towels ...you can wrap it around you for warmth … lie on it … use it as a sail on a mini-raft … wet it for use in hand-to- hand combat. Here the most essential item in the universe is presented for the viewer to take on their journey of self-actualisation as they are pursuing the dream of finding the greener grass elsewhere across the universe. The shock of the red and black against the white background bring the viewer into the drama and urgency of the journey and pursuit. The red is symbolic of spilled blood and the sharp triangles suggest the pain and struggle of such pursuits. .
