This original painting by Lisa Miller was completed in 2017 as part of her Winter Beach Collection. This small, intimate series of selected paintings was inspired by the artist's experience living in on the coast of Southern California during the winter months. In these works, Miller explores the visual and physical elements of winter at the ocean - the unique and dominant weather patterns, muted colors and cool daylight, fog and clouds, rainstorms and clearing skies - as well as the metaphorical aspects of the human experience navigating such elements on a personal basis - weathering emotional storms, going deep within ourselves, looking outward toward a personal horizon. Artwork is painted on heavy 300 pound hot press Fabriano watercolor paper. Paper has three cut edges and one deckled edge. Painting is signed in pencil on front (may not be shown in photo).

Lisa G. P. Miller is a California and Arizona-based artist whose paintings explore the interior aspects of human experience. Lisa Miller works primarily in oil on canvas and water-based mediums on paper. She is at home working both from life ‘en plein air’ and in the studio using her own photographs for reference, as photography has been a constant means of expression and tool for capturing the way she sees the world. She employs various methods in her creative process and travel is one of her constant sources of inspiration and most transformative influences. Her paintings are rooted in nature and explore universal themes in the human experience. In her work, she endeavors to elicit in the viewer the emotions we feel when connected to the vastness and beauty of the natural world. These are deep truths that we can all share and identify with – and that bring us closer to each other as well as ourselves. The overall effect of Miller’s art work is that of free-form expression – one that provokes a momentary human experience and awakens an inner life. Lisa Miller’s artwork has been collected and exhibited both internationally and throughout the United States including most recently as part of juried shows at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York and the “Force of Nature” exhibition at Shemer Art Center in Phoenix, Arizona. She lives and works in Scottsdale, Arizona and Santa Barbara, California.
