Ramón Acín Aquilué was a anarchist teacher, painter and illustrator murdered by the spanish nacionalist regime just a few days after the 1936 fascist coup. He is also known for drawing paper birds, always ready to flee, as signature at the bottom of the letters he wrote to his family while held in prison. Words heading this work are somehow taken from the famous interview given, just one day before Acín's execution, by another spanish anarchist, Buenaventura Durruti Dumange: "We are not in the least afraid of ruins. We are going to inherit the earth, there is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie might blast and ruin its own world before it leaves the stage of history. We carry a new world, here, in our hearts. That world is growing this minute".
