My painting starts its journey primarily from the direct representation of everyday life, seeking release in a peculiar world of the barren Hungarian fallow, where nature regains its paradisiacal beauty and becomes lyrical reality on canvas. My dream world is at once sweetly familiar and seductively unfamiliar. Motivated by an insatiable hunger to paint, my work is a quest to portray my desires, fears and feelings through my art. The themes of my works are inspired by the toposes of urban and rural life. I explore the role of man and animal, individual and group in society and nature. The deliberately random arrangement of images and the plastic distorted forms draw from a toolbox of anxiety, humour and chaos. I juxtapose the impersonality, excitement and chaos of urban life with the solitude, tranquillity and picturesqueness of rural life. My works aspire to a world that draws on real life, but also contains idealistic notions of youth and carefreeness, while not without a critical tone. In my paintings, I speak of reality, but I allow an infinite range of shades, shapes and characters into this reality. I'm interested in the quality of material and colour, my canvases are rich in colourism and seek the plasticity of paint. Animalistic people, humanistic animals meet in my fantasy world, the boundary between reality and imagination is blurred. The playful colours and grotesque characters enter into a fierce dialogue with the deeper meaning of the images, and I leave the key to the solution in the hands of the viewer. The heightened intensity of the lights and colours, and the ordinariness of the subject matter, engage with the viewer, inviting him into a world of questions, where I try to say the unspeakable and paint the unpaintable. Edit’s work is included in private collections internationally and displayed in public collections such as the Hungarian Museum of Agriculture in Budapest.
