ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In the "A New American Dream" series, I explore the pop aesthetic of the 1950 decade in the United States. The Second World War was over by now and the USA emerged as the first world power. The women of that time were portrayed as being always in a good mood, most of the time working as housekeepers and doing everything to keep their husbands happy: cooking, cleaning, gardening, doing the laundry, taking care of their children, etc. I overlap images of these women with portraits of movie stars of the same time period and other images from nature, typical of the same epoch. And I also use images of old prints showing how women were portrayed in the 19th century.
