Born in Jundiaí (SP– Brazil) on May 4th, 1972, daughter of an Italian father and a Brazilian mother, Gisele was drawing and painting during her entire childhood, selling already at the age of 8 stone sculptures to neighbours and relatives. Her artistic career began during her schooldays and after concluding her studies at the “Escola Panamericana de Artes” she entered the UNESP(Universidade Estadual Paulista) where she attended the course of Plastic Arts and got a licentiateship for Artistic Education. Then she accomplished complementary studies on the Brazilian Barock. Her talent as an artist is outstanding and can be observed best through her skill in drawing and her fine strokes with the thin painting brush.Starting from the human body, her painting emphasizes faces, including portraits of our Brazil, the Indians and their culture, which she shows in a most natural way, after visiting, along the years, a great part of Indian reservations and settlements all over Brazil. The indigenous population in Brazil sums up to about 220 tribes with about 350.000 peoples, most of them living in the Amazon region and speaking more than 180 Indian languages.Although Brazil is a developing country, many tribes still avoid any contact with our society. Between themselves the indigenous people show similarities and differences. Their culture, languages, habitats, social organization as well as the ways of the relationship with their environment varies a lot.Gisele Ulisse owns and manages a well reputed School of Arts with more than 150 students, where she teaches how to paint Indians and all the versatility of her art.Her work is admired and awarded on several occasions with prizes at art exhibitions in Brazil and abroad
