ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Red Poppies, with their fiery petals and delicate, fluttering blooms, have long captivated artists with their striking beauty and poignant symbolism. Originating from Europe, Asia, and Africa, poppies have been immortalized in art and literature as symbols of remembrance, resilience, and the fleeting nature of life. As a source of inspiration for painters and poets throughout the ages, poppies evoke a sense of both sorrow and hope, their vibrant colors and ephemeral blooms serving as reminders of the fragility and resilience of the human spirit. This painting honors the timeless allure and symbolic richness of poppies, inviting viewers to contemplate the beauty and complexity of the natural world.

My name is Mason Holcomb, and I was born in Alabama in 1995. I'm an artist, designer, and curator known for my dedication to the visual arts and community engagement. My journey began when I started working in a nonprofit art gallery after high school. I quickly climbed the ranks to become Executive Director while also pursuing my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. During my time at MountainValley Arts Council (MVAC), I honed my skills in curation and community outreach. Some of the highlights of my career include solo exhibitions such as "Vignettes" and "Reify," as well as numerous collaborations and group shows across Alabama. My artistic repertoire spans across 2D paintings, 3D sculpture, mixed-media, and Augmented Reality (AR), which I utilize to craft immersive experiences for my audience. After relocating to Fayetteville, Arkansas, I served as Curatorial Associate at Art Ventures NWA before deciding to focus solely on my artistic practice. My work delves into themes of identity and connection, often emphasizing tactile elements and hand symbolism. Through mediums like acrylic, oil, watercolor, and AR, I aim to challenge the conventional boundaries of art and cultivate meaningful connections with my viewers.
