The carnival of the carnivores, a sight to see A celebration, of the wild and the free Where beasts of all kinds, come to play And revel in their primal way There are lions and tigers, and bears oh my Roaming free, under the open sky There are wolves and hyenas, and wild dogs too All coming together, for the carnival's big shoo There are hunters and scavengers, and predators galore All drawn to the carnival, to hunt and roar They come from the forests, and the savannas and the plains To feast and frolic, in the carnival's reigns So come one and all, to the carnival of the carnivores And witness the wild, in all its splendor and allures For it is a sight, that you will never forget And a memory, that will linger, long after. A pig on a deformed man's head that is dominating him to the point of suffocation. This a metaphorical analogy to the nature of some business practices that look to engulf, overwhelm and suffocate the customer. This artwork is featured in Lil Diamond Smith's Book "Futurist: New York Edition." available on Amazon and Apple.

While Mark M. Whelan's art is primarily portraits and figurative pictures. However, his aim is not to represent a beautiful image of a person or an individual in a futuristic context; rather, it’s an ongoing exploration of the process of how art is created concerning its structure, composition, colour, and technique. Like many figurative painters of his generation, it’s impossible for Whelan to avoid the looming shadows of Francisco Goya, Francis Bacon, Hieronymus Bosch and Lucian Freud, all of which have dominated the figurative world, their paintings both evocative, emotional and full of existential angst and anticipation of an uncertain future. However, Whelan is finding his futuristic path into the light, away from these titans of the art world, his work constantly seeking to go beyond the discipline of representational art and the more gestural expressionism that we are familiar with in the figurative paintings of Bacon.
