ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I painted this portrait for two reason. I found an image of an actress, Lyne Renée, performing the role of a powerful woman, Sara Alder, a general but also a woman who had to suffer a lot through many lifetimes. I loved the beauty of the sharp lines of her visage, and the subtle expression only readable in her eye. I wanted to convey that emotion in the painting. The other reason was the challenge to paint a portrait, which I had never done, in a realistic way, but also trying to let go of the precision I have when I paint, the exactitude of each line, attempting to be freer. That painting to me is a turning point, a moment in time where I can be free from colors and lines, while still conveying what I try to input in every of my paintings, the emotion and tenderness.
