Maryanne is a French self-taught painter working exclusively in oil, born in the French Alps and now based in Brittany.
Her work explores the relationship between matter, light, memory, and perception through layered, textured surfaces built with palette knives.
Rooted in her Flemish heritage and a lifelong sensitivity to material, she developed a natural affinity for oil painting at the age of 22. Her background as a color specialist further informs her refined chromatic approach.
Her practice moves between terrestrial, narrative scenes and a more cosmological and symbolic universe, where light emerging from darkness becomes a central language. Deep blues, earthy tones, and luminous contrasts define her chromatic signature, creating spaces that feel both grounded and suspended.
Her chromatic approach is shaped by a sensitivity to light and atmosphere and moves into luminous contrasts.
Many of her paintings are revealed in half-light, where light emerges from darkness and forms seem to appear, shimmer, and remain partially hidden.
Colour is experienced as a living, vibrating presence. These works become fully alive, pulsating in low light, sublimated by shadow and imbued with a meditative energy intensified by the vibration...
