Sveva discovered photography at the cusp of adolescence and found it brought her a sense of calm and fulfillment amidst shifting borders, cultures, and communities. Capturing people and places left behind and saving it to “celluloid memory”. Connecting to the world with a sense of curiosity and unobtrusive observation have been guiding principles for Sveva, and a path toward personal evolution. While living in New York City, she met the venerated photographer Philip Jones Griffiths, and took his advice to heart: “Keep it pure, keep shooting and get a job doing something else.” After over thirty years of photographic practice, she is now unearthing her negatives, dated 1987-2008, with the purpose of sharing her catalogue. This collection is an unflinching exploration of everyday life from around the globe. Her photographs reveal a savoring and honoring of her subject matter, as well as a sense of quiet gratitude and bold willingness to connect.
