ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The subject of the work is inspired by an iconic photograph that a few months ago went around the world and the web: the Ukrainian girl with a lollipop and a rifle. This iconic inaccurate information has made it difficult to navigate the thorny subject of war and at the same time created difficulties in identifying its source: fiction or reality? The artistic reproduction sees the subject of the work, the little girl, whose rifle is however replaced with a European flag, a symbol of integration and peace over seventy years old. The work also wants to be an artistic representation of an anti-war message, but not in terms of staging violence and cruelty, but in a perspective of hope and peace. There is no faithful representation of a subject but the representation of an experience or a moment, or a disturbed realism. Interrupted images and decomposition of the subject lead to a ‘discombolation': a visual disorientation linked to the exaltation of time and movement. The girl's face is in fact dystopian, tripled, precisely to convey disorientation in the viewer and movement of the subject.
