KRÜTZ SīVÆL is an artist known by different names in different corners of the artistic world. He portrays the amorphous and transcendent qualities of internal and external struggle through self portraits and allegory. His unique form of cubist abstract expressionism has been described as having the emotion of Cy Twombly, the chaos of Basquiat, the compelling presence of Rothko, and the aggressive figurative aesthetic of George Condo & Picasso. He works mostly in isolation; entering a deep meditative/trance state, which he achieves through a mix of fasting, sleep deprivation and loud experimental classical music appearing to be a psychotic episode from and outsiders’ perspective. He often describes his creative process as a ‘fight with the canvas’ saying that each piece haunts and taunts him until completion. He admires the beauty of deterioration and rejuvenation. As a result he is particularly drawn to decaying walls and structures recognizing how they depict a story of evolution and rebirth. This is visible in the many layers used to create his work. In each painting there may be as many as 10 other pieces underneath the final layer adding dynamic depth and details unique to KRÜTZ. Another telltale sign of a KRÜTZ work is the use of what he calls “chaos fractals” which are made through the use of one continuously folded stroke layered upon itself giving great depth and depiction of time.
