I wanted to find a way to express with colours and simple lines the effect of a deep forest, with the sun light showing through the trees. This work took me several years to complete. For a quarter of a century, on five continents, nomadism was the conscious choice of Canadian artist and architect Isabelle CYR. Like her own lifepath, Isabelle’s artistic work is fluid and diverse. The artist journeys through various artistic expressive worlds, techniques and mediums: lacquer, linocut and printing, stamps, oils, watercolour, collage, photography, even painting with nail polish. Her creative process is often related to context – time, space or geography will inform her choice of medium, and will translate into either a spontaneous or a more deliberate artwork. Colours transcribe a search for the timeless expression of fleeting and evanescent moments: the golden light of a morning, the vibrations of an abandoned place, the sky of a stormy evening, the lust of a green vineyard, the awe and wonder offered by nature... As Isabelle is oscillating between her architectural practice in the Paris region and her painting studio set in the middle of the vines, her work oscillates between more formal and premeditated forms, and a looser and more fluid aspect of the countryside.
