My guitar was ready all day in the stand, but I couldn't break free from the aspiring spoonbills. Birds have never occupied me that much in the past, but suddenly there is a fascination for their diversity. Every night I hear the geese coming over and every morning the gulls are noisy. When I am on my bike I hear the little birds squeak and whistle. The French composer and organist Olivier Messiaen has devoted an entire ouvre to the sounds of the birds. For me it is the combination of movement, shape and sound that I leave my guitar for. Spoonbills convey a sense of timelessness. Follow them, that brief moment they pass by. And keep following them during the long trip they will make to Africa. That gives space.

"I find it more fascinating to look at art and music as ways to discover yourself and connect with others, rather than simply seeing them as creating works of art or performing pieces of music". Kay Sleking is a multi-talented artist and entrepreneur. He paints, composes, performs, and is the initiator of innovative art & music projects. From a young age, he was drawn to art and music. After a short career as a graphic designer, he switched to music and performed worldwide, gave masterclasses, and became a professor at the Conservatorium of Rotterdam. To be able to give respect to his skills as a painter, he devoted himself to the arts. Both ways of expression, music, and art, enhance each other. Inspired by stillness, spaciousness, and dynamics, his choice to paint birds and seascapes, as a transmitter to the openness, came naturally. His paintings are part of the lives of art collectors in Italy, the U.S.A, Germany, France, Switzerland, and The Netherlands. More information about his work as a visual artist and musician you can find on
