This painting was made after walking the fields around my home in Straffan, County Kildare, Ireland. I have a passionate interest in nature and habitat, with a particular interest in the plight of our pollinators. Through my work I hope to raise awareness of this and ask what we can all do to help prevent their numbers dropping further. In Ireland many of our farmers are acutely aware of the balance between nature and cultivation, and leave borders and hedgerows for wild plants. In this painting of a Kildare wheat field border you can see the wild carrot and teasel thriving alongside the crops. Light is a very important element in my work, and I describe these native Irish plants in the undergrowth, the light picking out their form and colour. What you see here is a 'bees-eye' view of the world.

I'm an artist living and working in County Kildare, Ireland. Painting in acrylic, I explore themes of environment, habitat and nature. My recent work is concerned with the drop in our pollinator numbers, and the importance of native wild plants. I have had 6 solo exhibitions in Ireland, and participated in many group shows in Ireland and the UK. I'm currently preparing for a solo exhibition with Kilcock Art Gallery. 'Shifting Sands ... a Startling Evolution' which explores the different habitats of the North Bull Island in Dublin Bay, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve within a capital city.
