This is an original painting by Sigrid Patterson, acrylic on stretch Belgian linen. It shows a single banksia flower in an old bottle. A stunning bloom bought inside for our viewing pleasure as it sits alone on a bench. Banksias are incredible flowers and plants, one of my favourites. This one is a coastal banksia sometimes referred to as old man banksia due to the strange yet beautiful spent flowers that form a hairy cone with large seed pods. They are a favourite food of the yellow tail black cockatoos that descend on my garden to feed on the banksias most days.

The focus of Sigrid's main body of work is on flowers and plants, many being Australian natives. Flowers are used in most cultures to symbolise major milestones in our lives and Sigrid extends this by using flowers as the conduit of her social narrative and observations of things that are important to her,, There is a particular focus on social equity, diversity, the environment and the need to learn more about ancient Aboriginal knowledge to work together and heal our lands and support thriving communities. Inspiration: Georgia O'Keeffe, Margaret Preston, Margaret Ollie, Ben Quilty and Yayoi Kusama.
