Crude Painting

It is often times said that Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication. Within this particular piece, I wanted to challenge that notion of "white space" or "less is more" by creating something rather simplistic in it's own right. Simple, Yes... however going in with the very specific sense of awareness that as a painter it is oftentimes challenging to have the ability of knowing exactly when to stop. To soon and it doesn't give you that sense or gut feeling it is completed, on the flip side too many edits can be a painters own worst enemy. For this particular piece, I allowed myself to simply let the paint guide me. Once the initial background texture was applied. Then came a couple of applications of the black acrylic. After contemplating and quite frankly starring at the art, as a confused dog often stares at random things. I then began to see the Art take on a Personality and Voila!! The resemblance of something became quite apparent, there lied before me what I perceived as a primitive cave like painting style. I, then of course excited took that and made a definitive choice to flow with that concept, then implemented some influence by Jean Micheal Basquiat's bold use of colors and also adding a slight influence from a Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo's Works. This particular piece is Titled "Crude". It came about because the black paints tendency to reflect the textured clumps screamed CRUDE OIL!! This piece also has a definite crudeness to it. From the paints initial very random application, to it's very primitive tribal vibe the piece also contains some very enthusiastic scratches added for texture and personality. So...here it is, my Interpretation of random application of acrylics in a rather simple yet complex style.
