The concept for 'Dusk on the Water' came from rowing the stretch of water in Bristol called Temple Back, heading into the Temple Mead railway tunnels. The warm glow of the office buildings in stark contrast to the shadow and blackness of the water and ancient harbour walls. Moving from light into the darkness of the tunnels accentuates the warmth of the light but the historic walls and water remain dominant and deep seated. Approach: Neutral colour palate with a small amount of maple yellow to balance the painting. Use of mixed media to add interest and representation of architecture to the image. Applying water, creating drips added for me both two dimensions, representing the water flowing through the harbour but also an atmosphere of mystery and intrigue. It has been painted on a hand built canvas which is unframed as I felt the painting would become too contained in a frame. It is strung and ready to hang.

I classify myself as an emerging artist having entered the world of art a little way down my career path!! I have left the corporate world behind and am now pursuing a serious career in the world of art. Having grown up in the wilds of North Norfolk, I was surrounded by seasonally changing landscapes, expansive coastlines, immense sandy beaches, large skies and infinite horizons. These have embedded in me a deep-seated need for a sense of space and infinity in my life and in my work. I paint mainly in acrylic on canvas, abstract landscapes and very much enjoy playing with colour but I decided I would challenge myself and develop a series of paintings with a very limited colour palate to try to capture mood and atmosphere. I did however sneak a little bit of colour !! My paintings are held in collections in Australia, Europe and the UK. I work from a studio in Bristol, UK.
