ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Abstracted Portrait Painting of a black and white Cat Oh, cats! Every cat has a distinct personality. It is my goal to capture not only their likeness but the personality of the "model". This little guy demanded something striking and strong. He is unafraid and ready to take on the world. The background of this painting is mostly shades of muted whites, gray and black with touches of dark blue . The overall painting feels dramatic with a sense of place - but somewhat undefined. The implied movement and place are to be added by the viewer. The brushwork is smooth and the colors and shapes lock into each other with both soft and hard edges. Title: Robert the Cat Steps Out 18" x 14" x 1.5" ready to hang or frame This painting is on canvas attached to a 100% birch wood panel with walnut stained finished edges. Ready to hang: 1.5" is deep enough to stand out from the wall as shown above. Hanging hardware included, but you could have the painting framed if you prefer.

I was once traveling with a close friend, photographing everything in sight, as any tourist does. I asked him, "Don't you want to take any photos?" He answered, "I like to remember things in my own way." What a profound statement - and one that I take seriously when I paint. My art is about remembering things . . . in my own way . . . and "disremembering" everything else. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, my artistic career began at an early age when I began painting with my mother on Sunday afternoons. Surrounded by art books, paintings and sculpture at home, I always knew I wanted to be a painter.
